You must complete three of the following questions

       1.   Examine the enzyme phosphofructokinase.  What is the substrate of PFK?  What is its allosteric inhibitor?  Explain the relationship between ATP and PFK?  What kind of regulatory role does PFK play?  Why is this useful?   The wikipedia article is a good source.

       2.  Why are chloroplasts and mitochondria similar in function?  What about their structures allows them to function in this way?  How did they come to be in the cell?   MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT SIMPLY DEFINE MITOCHONDRIA AND CHLOROPLAST.  YOU MUST COMPARE AND CONTRAST THEM.

        3.  E. Coli undergoes lactic acid fermentation.  Imagine there was a transport protein that removed pyruvate from the organism as soon as it was produced.  Why would this cause a problem?

        4.  Yeast are eukaryotic cells.  An extract of broken yeast cells was made.  The organelles from the yeast extract were removed.  If glucose was added to the yeast extract what would produced?  Why is this?  How is this accomplished?
